Our Little Miracle

On Sunday, Maddy turned One. A year ago today we were celebrating her arrival at Sea World with her being only 4 days old (I sometimes wonder what we were thinking). But a year ago on her birthday we were driving as fast as we legally could to make to California to see our new little daughter whom we had been waiting years for. Walking into that hospital, I wasn't sure I could make it because of the anxiousness I felt at finally meeting her. We walked into the labor and delivery wing and met with Ally. Maddy wasn't in the room and we had to wait even longer to get wristbands so that we could finally meet and hold her. After a little bit of time, I was able to walk into the nursery and see our little angel for the first time. My eyes welled up with tears and my heart started pounding as I realized my dreams of becoming a mother were finally here. As I picked her up for the first time, I just sobbed with pure joy at the miracle sleeping in my arms and the unselfish gift Ally was willing to give Doug and I. The next few days were hard, but knowing we were soon going to be a family was worth all of the trials we had to endure.

It has now been the best year of our lives. Maddy has brought so much joy and love into our home. People ask me if going through the infertility was hard and at the time it was awful and now that Maddy is getting older and we want to extend our family it is sometimes hard. But if we had not gone through that trial in our lives we would not have this sweet little girl in our home. I know everything happens for a reason and I know she was meant to be our little girl. Happy 1st Birthday Maddy!
